Hubby's office wasn't in the plans. I had tried valiantly to keep my "stuff" out of the room. I had even envisioned adding in cable so he could watch ballgames while he listened to his music and worked or played his games. But, then the printer went back in there and then the filing cabinet since I file most of the stuff I print. I still tried my best to keep out of there. Then, after a weekend of events with the kids, we came home with a couch.
DS and family had gotten new living room furniture for Christmas and wanted to know if we wanted one of their old couches. It had rained every other time we could go get it, so I had plenty of time to figure out what I would do with it. My "office" and project work space is out by the kitchen in a rather large enclosed porch area. Since so much stuff was migrating back to Hubby's office, I was clearing out a lot of junk. I had a rug out there and an extra little table and the second television. And, room. For a couch. A long time ago, we'd had one out there. So, we brought this one back and gave it a try. And, it works. It is like that old thing that if you change the furniture, you want to change the drapes and the rugs and everything. Well, I only wanted to remove the "office" and perhaps make the whole space into a sitting room/bedroom for company. One of our spare bedrooms is the office and the other is being converted from storage to a space for grandkids to stay. It has lots of toys and books and a cat. The adults have to camp. I'm trying to figure out how to use Hubby's office during the day and disappear like smoke during the evening hours. It also means facing up to the fact that I have to finish my projects. That might be a bonus to the situation....

Hubby has more time at home. New company has thoughtfully provided Hubby with a laptop and a way to access the company from home. So he works a lot more weekends and some evenings from home. I just didn't realize that he needed somewhere to do it. Somewhere safe. After watching the dogs racing around the tv table he was working on and nearly pulling the laptop off by the cords, I realized that he needed a safe and reasonably quiet place to work. I had been planning on redoing DS's old room into a bonafide guest room, but it seemed to be a logical choice for an office. DS has been out of the room for almost double digit years. And, I still have DD's room to leave as a bedroom, especially for little grandyounguns. The colors I picked out would still go for an office. I moved an unused, but terrific desk in there. A table and a lamp. A rocker for comfortable reading. A tray to hold all the stuff that comes out of guy's pockets and off their belts (they don't need to be laughing at women's purse contents). Yesterday, I made my first foray into the remodeling fund for a new light fixture. Something nice and masculine. We'll put it up on Friday. I will probably buy the paint then, too. Once finished, I hope to add bookcases for all the books boxed up. And to refinish the floors where I pulled up all the old carpet. Good thing. I found more mold in the closet carpet. Probably been there from Rita. Sheesh. Dried, but still nasty. Since we didn't have mold on the closet walls and the carpet hadn't been wet when we checked it like some of the other carpet areas were, we didn't think about it. Glad it is out of there now. This weekend, he changed out all the wall sockets that were still for two pronged plugs. He brought home the speakers he had taken to work and now can listen to tunes. I've even told him he could put his stuff up on the walls. All in all, he loves the room and spent a lot of this weekend working away in there. I still need to buy new blinds and to buy an office chair since the one he is using at the desk is too low. I guess I'll need to add cable in there during football and basketball seasons. I may be doing too well....he may never come out. I may never see him again....
