You Mean You Can Fry That????

March 14th, 2007 at 03:08 pm

Festival food is expensive. But it is for charity. So we delved into the budget and took the basketball money we didn't use from having the flu and went to the food booths. Can't believe we actually went on a budget! We budgeted about 10 a night. Last night we took our own drinks and spent 9.75. Hubby usually gets some kind of meat on a stick. I usually eat first and go for a dessert. Or maybe I'll get some barbecue. We roamed through the booths to get an idea of what's new. Since the neighboring fair in the fall had something called fried coke, I was curious to see if they were selling it here. They had a lot of fried stuff--funnel cakes, onions, potatoes, shrimp, and fried pies. I spotted the fried oreos from before. I didn't see the fried twinkies again. But I did see something new--fried snickers and fried baby ruths. Good grief! I decided that tonight I might try the new Death by Chocolate that I saw. I don't know about you, but I don't think I like my chocolate deep fried.....

I did get the funnel cake last night. Yummy! Had some cinnamon in the batter I think. It did have so much powdered sugar on it that with the breeze, I looked like a snowman when I finished! Some put cinnamon on it with the sugar. Must be fun to make your own!

The snowman thing made me chuckle. If you're not wearing it, it must not have been good. Wink Yea, my kids really enjoy making these. We also make sopapillas (sp???)

littlemama, you've made me hungry! Sounds so good! If you have time, could you post the recipes? And how you fry them. I grew up with a parent who hated fried foods and I never learned how!

Fried twinkies sound disguisting, however they are absolutely delicious (Bad Fairy, Bad!) Sounds like you had fun, I always love fairs and carnivals, but nothing quite compares to the scones at the Puyallup Fair!

I have heard of Fried Coke, but I've not yet seen it. I really don't know if I want to see it. I mean, Fried COKE!?! What's next, Fried Butter?

    Fried pickles
    Fried ice cream
    Fried Twinkies
    Fried apples
    Fried Oreos

I suppose the next thing we'll see are the lawsuits a-flying. Soda manufacturers are being sued for hawking their drinks in schools. School systems are being sued for making junk food machines accessible to students. Fairs and carnivals are frequented by whom? Kids. Legal action is just waiting to happen.

They also had fried cheese and fried mushrooms before. I didn't scope out all the venders closely. Not yet anyway. lol. Hmmmm. Fried ice cream, now that sounds interesting....

Actually, is this the same thing? I might have had fried ice cream in a Mexican restaurant once a long time ago. Hmmmm. With cinnamon and stuff....now I'm hungry again....

The best funnel cake I have ever had had powdered sugar, cinnamon, whipped cream and strawberries on top. It was delicious took all four of us to eat it and I wasn't sure the paper plate was going to make it to the table! Ah, fair food. There are days when I regret going the no-sugar route, LOL. Then I remind myself about the headaches. But it was good.
