Star Trek

February 22nd, 2007 at 05:38 pm

Went to therapy yesterday and it was great. Had an interesting question posed to me. Who is your favorite character in the old Star Trek series? I thought about it for a bit and realized that my favorite was the doctor. Dry humored, helpful, knowledgeable....Seems that correlates. The doctor was always around, helping out. Supporting. Jumping in when he could help. Never really taking charge, but an important part of the group. And he always had a not take it seriously sort of quip in there. I guess it is supposed to describe characteristics in yourself. I asked Hubby who his favorite was. He is a Scotty. A go to, fix it guy. With a sense of humor. What an interesting idea! I loved the exercise....so who is your favorite and why?

Fun! It definitely has changed over the years. When I was a child it was Mr. Spock. Now, I agree with you--Dr. McCoy. (Geeze, I almost couln't think of the name.) Same reasons, too, plus liking his profession, his balance of science with heart.

You want to know my favorite?

The unknown away team guy wearing red! Whenever I see someone like that, my attention immediately becomes fixated on him, wondering how he is about to meet his grisly and untimely end. Big Grin

For regular cast members, I'm a Spock guy. I really liked his sense of logic and insight. Like an outsider looking in, but never really able to fit in at the same time. In a way, I can relate to that as well.

My absolute favorite? The Romulan captain in the episode that they first introduced the Romulans. Interesting how 60s TV (in the middle of the Vietnam war) made "the enemy" seem multidimensional. We have gone so far backwards in that aspect these days.

Sulu. He was written as a general all around guy - attention for detail, had a sense of humor, and was an optimist. (Fascinating) how in the six movies only he managed to achieve work-home balance.

Captain Kirk. He got the best lines! :-) Beam me up, Scotty!

I liked the green girl that Kirk fell for.

But of the regular characters, it has to be a toss up between the doc and his sarcastic humor and groundedness, or Chekov, because of the accent.
