Special Delivery.....

September 6th, 2007 at 03:54 pm

Little granddaughter arrived a bit early. Hubby and I dashed across the countryside and reached the hospital with three hours to spare. Nothing like seeing your DS coming down the hallway with a big grin on his face. Got to admit, the little GDD is the cutest thing. And very good natured. She doesn't like diaper changes, but even her cries are cute. I was asked to hang around for a couple of weeks, and I was honored to accept. Wild lions couldn't have pulled me away. DD made a video out of all our pictures with music, and both the new mom and I cried. It was very moving. I have a feeling I'm going to get emotional a lot in the next few years. I get to do a lot of baby holding while they are doing all the diaper duty and everything. They are going to be awesome parents. Now that I've finally figured out how to use DS's laptop, I am going to try to catch up on everyone else. Hope all are having a good start to fall. Well, guess I better get this computer thing off my lap and free up my arms. Never know when they'll be needed.....

What's in a Name....

August 27th, 2007 at 06:00 pm

The kids all wondered what we would like to be called as grandparents. So we set about trying to find names for ourselves. Considering we would have them for the rest of our lives, we wanted names we could live with. There are already a couple of Nanas, a Papa, a Grandma, and a Grandpa. In the more distant past, my family had on one side Mama "name" and Daddy "name" and on the other side formal Grandfather and Grandmother. Hubby had the Grandpa and Grandma names on his side, too. We ran through the options. Including the Cajun versions here. Clearly, we had some thinking to do. Mine was settled fairly easily. I have lived with a short name for a long time and opted for Grams. That was approved by all. Hubby, however, was stumped. I mused to DS that we needed a Grandparent names for dummies book. He responded by sending us websites. Some of the names are simply hilarious. Since the nursery is based on Winnie the Pooh, we ran the Poohpa name from the list by the kids. Flatly rejected by all of them. Also, Hubby decided that the name would be shortened to PooPoo somewhere along the line. DS tongue-in-cheek suggested another from the list--the Grand Dude. Which of course would end up shortened to the Grand DooDoo. Somewhere in all the names, we found Grampa. That was approved by the committee. So, we finally have names--Grams and Grampa. Whew! Glad THAT is settled.....
P.S. I'm so sorry, Ima, that I never answered your question. They've been told that the baby is a girl!

Babyitis....

July 8th, 2007 at 08:17 pm

I've been good. Really, really good. I haven't bought anything for our soon to be here grandchild. Until yesterday. I waited until I knew the direction that DS and DIL were going with their decorations and ideas for the baby. Yesterday, I went and got the registry and started looking at what they had picked out. Hubby and I had already agreed that we wanted to buy a big ticket item for them to furnish the baby's room, and they've agreed on what we chose from the list. Now, comes the cute part. I browsed through the store and loved way too many things. I did really well buying a few super cute things for the baby shower. And since I am the grandma and can get away with it, I bought a couple of things to have around our house so they wouldn't have to pack so much when they came our way to visit. I couldn't resist the stuff. Towels and blankets and so forth. Way more cute stuff than when ours was little. I totally indulged. DD has been doing this for months, buying a little at a time. I have waited--until now. This is so much fun.....

Rockabye Baby!

It's official. DS and DIL are having a baby! This means I'll be a grandma by the fall. DS will be almost exactly one year older than I was when I had him. My baby is having a baby.....
