Another step on the yellow brick road

October 2nd, 2006 at 09:07 pm

I used coupons. Yep, cut them out and matched them to the sale and bought what I needed. It wasn't much--just saved 3.00 in coupons savings and 8.00 total if you count the sale and stuff. I really need to get on that price book to make sure the sale is any good. But one step at a time. I think I will reward myself by keeping track of the coupon savings per month. Then I will put how much (or little at this point) into an envelope each month. Every three months, I am going to put it on my credit card debt. Tanglible proof that I am learning. Have scissors and on the prowl....

Banana Split

October 1st, 2006 at 07:55 pm

I think the grocery savings started with a banana split. On Labor Day, Hubby and grilled out for just the two of us. Our college kiddies had already come and gone for the weekend. Hubby doesn't really like many sweets--just brownies and ice cream--so I suggested we go get him a banana split. The first store we went to was out of ice cream--the machine was broken. So we trucked over to the next town (these towns are side by side and even overlap). They were out of bananas. We had a choice of a third town or trying the store that had reopened recently from the hurricane, but he just gave up and got a sundae. Then I joined the forum. The next Sunday, I decided to resurrect the old Saturday night rent a movie and make dessert thing we had with the kids when they were small. But this time it was football and banana splits. We loved it. Not only that, we had tons for the next week and the next week....Then we decided to grill each Sunday before ice cream which meant we had to make a menu. Then while we were at it, we started making menus for the whole week. Our grocery bill dropped to 30-45 a week! This savings stuff is expanding. And it all started with a banana split....
